MNU President

Darlene Jackson has been acclaimed to serve a second term as President of MNU. Jackson's second term begins July 1, 2020 and runs until June 30, 2022.

"I'm thrilled and humbled to serve as MNU's President for another term," said Jackson. "It’s a great honour to advocate for nurses. We will continue to fight back against the cuts and closures that are impacting our members and jeopardizing safe patient care. No matter what this government throws at us, nurses must stand united. Together we are a force to be reckoned with."

Jackson says bargaining is a key priority for MNU. "Members have been without a contract for almost 3 years—it’s incredibly frustrating that the government has delayed the process this long. Nurses deserve a fair contract, and we are working very hard to make that happen," she said.

Other priorities include pressing the government to stabilize the health care system in Winnipeg and holding the government to account on pending consolidation in the rest of the province.

Nominations for President closed on January 15. MNU’s Nominations and Elections Committee has since confirmed that Jackson was the only nominee, and thereby elected by acclamation.

Jackson has over three decades of nursing experience and has been an active MNU member since 1981. She was elected president at AGM 2018.
