Communications Officer

Salary/Benefits: As per MNU – UFCW Collective Agreement
Statement of Qualifications:

A combination of relevant education/training and experience in Creative Communications/Journalism. Proven knowledge, skills and expertise to prepare, design and produce materials in written, oral, visual, audio-visual and website formats. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in teams to meet tight deadlines.


Incumbent may perform a combination of one or all of the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of communication/public relations strategies and campaigns
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of communications materials (including but not limited to: articles, presentations, documents, speeches, publications, websites, communiqués, pamphlets, email newsletters, etc.) in both hard and electronic formats
  • Manage, monitor and communicate through various forms of social media
  • Monitor media and conduct media relations (including issuing press releases, developing media contacts, pitching stories, coordinating interviews, etc.).
  • Speaks or presents on behalf of the MNU as required
  • Assists with the selection and management of external contractors involved with the provision of communication services
  • Provides communications event planning, execution and support, including news conferences, speeches, etc.
  • Conducts research, analyses and prepares reports in support of communications strategies/campaigns
  • Assists in communications education and training
  • Provide communication support to MNU leadership, staff and elected representatives as required
