Put Patients First

Today, MNU President Darlene Jackson issued the following statement in response to the Pallister government announcing a review of their health care 'consolidation' plan, including the closure of the Concordia and Seven Oaks Emergency Departments.

"Today’s announcement is proof that the Pallister government knows their plan isn’t working. It also reinforces what nurses have known all along—that they never had an adequate plan, but they rushed ahead with these dangerous cuts and closures in an ill-advised attempt to save money.
It’s been clear since day one that this plan was always about balancing their books and not about improving patient care. It now appears that this government is willing to admit they have damaged our health care system, but it’s cold comfort for patients and the nurses putting in long hours trying to hold the system together. The government and Dr. Peachey must consult with frontline nurses, take their suggestions seriously, and stop this program of health care cuts and closures."
