Season’s Greetings from MNU

MNU members

MNU President

As another year comes to a close, I want to take a moment to thank members for their ongoing commitment to MNU, nursing and safe patient care.

This year has been a busy one for MNU staff and our membership. We asked you to vote for MNU in the union representation vote in August. And nurses responded. We have added approximately 500 new members to our ranks and we prepare for collective bargaining stronger than ever.

I know the ongoing health care cuts and closures have been trying for our members. You are doing more with less, and stretching yourselves thin with unfair and irresponsible mandatory overtime. The nursing shortage is acute, and vacancies remain at unacceptable levels, jeopardizing safe patient care time and again.

Premier Pallister recently promised a “bolder” agenda in 2020. With Phase 3 of system transformations set to unfold in the rural and northern regions in 2020, MNU will be watching the government’s next moves very closely, and will advocate on behalf of our members and safe patient care at every opportunity.

I am proud to represent the 12,000+ nurses that work on the frontlines of health care in this province every day.

On behalf of the MNU, thank you for your commitment to caring. We wish you a much-earned restful holiday season filled with loved ones and look forward to serving you in 2020.

Please note MNU Provincial Office is closed from December 24 to January 2. For urgent inquiries, contact your Local/Worksite representative(s), who can liaise on your behalf through designated channels.

In Solidarity,
Darlene Jackson, President
Your Manitoba Nurses Union
