Valerie Wotton has been elected to position of Vice President for the remainder of the current term, effective January 1st, 2021 to April 30th, 2021.

An election was held by the MNU Board of Directors on November 25, 2020 to fill the vacancy created following the announcement of current VP Deanna Douglas’ retirement.

Per Article 14 of the MNU Constitution & By-Laws, “14.02 With respect to a vacancy of an Executive Officer position, any such vacancy shall be filled by an election by the Board, with nominations from general membership.” A call for nominations was issued to members on October 16th and closed November 13th, 2020.

A nurse for over 37 years and Yellow Ribbon Award recipient, Wotton previously served as MNU Vice-President from 2008 until 2011. She has also served on the MNU Board of Directors, and held many other positions with MNU over the years.

“On behalf of Manitoba’s nurses, I would like to offer congratulations to Val and welcome her to the role. With over 3 decades of experience in union activism, I know she’ll do a terrific job.” said MNU President Darlene Jackson.

“I’d also like to offer my congratulations to Deanna Douglas on her retirement. Dee has been a strong advocate for nurses for many years, and we thank her for her commitment.”

Also a Yellow Ribbon Award recipient, Deanna Douglas is wrapping up a long career of nursing and union activism. She previously served as an MNU Board member and President of Local 7/32 among many other roles, before being elected MNU Vice President at the 2019 MNU AGM.
